“The Economic Report” show to feature Prison Health Services, Inc.

Deerfield Beach, FL, August 4, 2009 – While Congress is focused on reforming healthcare in the U.S., there’s another challenging healthcare story that’s occurring every day in the nation’s prisons and jails. Behind bars, the key issues include an aging population, an increase in mental illness, and greater numbers of cases of HIV and other chronic conditions—along with the obvious need for security and cost effectiveness.

These are challenges readily accepted by Prison Health Services, Inc., of Brentwood, TN, and PHS is the organization featured by the producers of The Economic Report in an upcoming episode on Medical Solutions for America's Correctional Population as part of the show's Medical Minutes television series.

The founder of the private correctional healthcare field, Prison Health Services (PHS) has delivered quality healthcare to patients in jails, prisons and juvenile facilities across the U.S. since 1978. Headquartered in Brentwood, Tennessee, PHS is comprised of a team of more than 3,800 caring professionals who dedicate themselves to providing cost-effective, quality patient care in the challenging correctional environment. The organization serves approximately 172 jail and prison sites around the country, covering over 178,000 inmate lives in 21 states.

Equipped with a proven set of clinical and technological resources, the PHS community of caregivers brings to clients and patients a foundation of quality, efficiency and accountability to achieve results.

"We have an unmatched depth of experience and proven results for hundreds of clients," says PHS CEO Rich Hallworth. "We have invested wisely over the years in our people, our processes and our performance measures. We will continue to do so in the future as we cater to the growing healthcare needs of America's inmate population."

The five-minute segment, which was filmed at Suffolk County House of Corrections in Boston, MA, will educate viewers on the healthcare challenges in America's prisons and jails, and will feature solutions provided by PHS. The segment will also feature interviews with PHS representatives and others.
